Overview
GrooveSheet speaks the Model Context Protocol over Streamable HTTP. Use the first address unless you only want the library and would rather not sign in.
All eight tools. OAuth with your GrooveSheet account.
The three library tools, anonymous.
Connect your app
- Open Settings, then Connectors, in Claude on the web, desktop or mobile.
- Choose Add custom connector, name it GrooveSheet and paste https://api.groovesheet.net/mcp.
- Select Connect, sign in on groovesheet.net and allow the app.
On Team and Enterprise plans an owner may need to add the connector for the organisation first.
Any other client that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP with OAuth 2.1 works too. The server publishes its protected-resource metadata at /.well-known/oauth-protected-resource and clients register themselves, so there is no client id to request. It is also listed in the official MCP Registry as net.groovesheet/mcp.
Signing in
A connected app can search the library, see your plan, minutes and transcriptions, and make upload links you open yourself. It can never spend minutes, buy anything, or change or delete your account. Remove the connector in the app to disconnect; approving it again later takes one click.
Tools
Library tools work on both addresses. Account tools need sign-in and are only on https://api.groovesheet.net/mcp. Every tool except create_upload_link is read-only.
Library
search_songs(query, instrument?, format?, page?)Search the library by song or artist, 10 results a page. Filter by instrument, or by sheet, midi or stems.get_song(track_id)Every part of one song and what it has (sheet music, MIDI only or audio only), with links to its pages.get_download_links(track_id, instrument)The page, PDF and Guitar Pro links for one part. Stems, MIDI and MusicXML downloads need a free account on the site.Your account · sign-in
get_account()Your plan and the minutes you have left.create_upload_link(task)A one-time link to upload your own song for one of the upload tasks. It creates a link and spends nothing.get_upload_status(code)Where an upload stands (waiting, processing, preview ready, completed, failed or expired), with a link to the result.list_my_jobs(limit?)Your recent transcriptions and separations, newest first.get_job(job_id)One transcription: its status and links to the result page, PDF and Guitar Pro file.Upload tasks
Chat apps cannot pass an audio file to a tool, so create_upload_link returns a link and the upload happens on groovesheet.net. It takes one task, and each opens the matching uploader. Links work once, belong to the account that made them, and expire after 24 hours. You get the free preview first and decide there whether to unlock the full song.
| task | You get |
|---|---|
| drums | Drum sheet music, MIDI and the drum stem |
| piano | Piano sheet music and MIDI |
| guitar | Guitar sheet music with a TAB staff, and MIDI |
| bass | Bass sheet music and MIDI |
| chords | A chord chart from the full mix |
| stems | Every part separated as audio |
| drums_midi | Drum MIDI only, for your DAW |
| piano_midi | Piano MIDI only, for your DAW |
Sheet music vs MIDI
A part counts as sheet music only when GrooveSheet has an engraved score for it. Which parts are scored varies by song, so get_song labels every part sheet_music, midi_only or audio_only, and your AI should go by that. Drums are almost always scored.
PDF and Guitar Pro files open without an account. Stems, MIDI and MusicXML downloads need a free GrooveSheet account on the song page, the same as on the site.
Pricing and limits
Connecting and the library tools are free. Your own songs use the same minutes as the site, charged only when you unlock a full song on groovesheet.net (see pricing). Requests are rate-limited; if your app hits a limit it gets an error saying so. Wait a minute and try again.
Privacy
GrooveSheet records each tool call (which tool, which app, whether it worked) and the arguments it needs. It never receives your conversation. Links carry a utm_source naming the app. Section 11 of the privacy policy has the details.
REST API
A REST API for building transcription and stem separation into your own product is in private beta. Email support@groovesheet.net with what you are building and how many minutes of audio a month you expect.
Troubleshooting
My app says it cannot connect
Check the address is exactly https://api.groovesheet.net/mcp, with no trailing slash or extra path.
The upload link says it does not work
It was made in a different GrooveSheet account from the one you are signed in to, or it was already used. Ask your app for a new one.
Only the library tools show up
You connected https://api.groovesheet.net/mcp/public. Switch to https://api.groovesheet.net/mcp to sign in.
